How to Sell on Depop

The idea of cleaning out your closet may sound boring, but you could actually make some serious cash doing it. The days of uploading on eBay and struggling to get a sale are over. Online selling has become easier and more user friendly than ever on the app Depop.

What you need: Any smartphone or tablet.

Step one- Begin by going to the app store to download the app. Once you’ve done that, you must create an account. You will first be able to enter your phone number, where a code will be sent to confirm your account creation. Think of a username and password. Then enter your email address. Once you’ve completed these steps, click “create account”.

Step two-If you’d like to make your profile more appealing to customers, you could edit your description for your page. In this box, you can give a brief summary of your style, or any of your policies. Make sure to upload a profile picture to stand out and attract customers.

Step three-Once you’re ready to list your item, go to the bottom of the screen where the camera icon is. You will first be asked to upload pictures of the item you’re selling. One of the most important ways to gain attention on your page is to take good quality pictures. You don’t need a professional camera. All you need is your phone camera and a clean background to take the picture on. Another way to get more attention is to model the piece for the buyers.

Step four- You can now move on to writing a description for your product. You must give a clear, accurate description of the product. Specify if the item runs big or small, the condition it’s in, and anything else you feel the buyer needs to know. The vaguer you are, the more questions you’ll get in your messages about the product.

Step five-The next step is a little more confusing for some sellers. Now, you’ll be asked to set shipping rates. It is up to the buyer whether they’d like to cover the shipping cost on their own, or if they’d like to include the shipping cost in the total price their customer pays. If the seller opts to have the customer pay, they will be sent a free shipping label upon th
e customer’s payment. This makes it easy for the seller. All they have to do is print out the label, put the item in a package, and ship it out. This is the easiest option. It is up to the seller if they want to ship internationally.

Step six- The only step left is to put in a price for your item. There is no set rule on how you should decide on a price. There are guidelines that many users tend to follow. Any item that's posted that is lightly worn is 75-80% of the original price. Well-worn items that are still in good condition are roughly 40-50%, depending on the brand. To get an idea of how certain brands or types of pieces are priced, browse the app.

Don’t be discouraged! Building your empire takes time. Consistently posting and following other accounts will help you reach your full selling potential.
